Education
Dr. T. Lenise Clifton completed her undergraduate degree at Centenary College in Louisiana. She then moved to North Carolina to attend Dental School at UNC-Chapel Hill, where she completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1992.
Dr. Clifton went on to complete residencies in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics, which required five years of extra training, and she earned her Masters of Science.
Dr. Clifton Opened Clifton & Mauney in September 1997
Some of our current team members have been by her side since that first year!
Dr. Chuck Mauney, whom she met and fell in love with as a fellow student at UNC Dental School, joined the practice a few years later. They have been married since 1993 and have three children who are all grown up now!
Life-Long Learner
Dr. Clifton published several articles related to her graduate program research at UNC and returns regularly to teach in the orthodontic clinic.
She is board-certified by both the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Orthodontics. She is also a member of the North Carolina Dental Society and the Durham-Orange Dental Society.
Personal Life
A native of Louisiana, Dr. Clifton grew up in a small town called DeQuincy. She has always loved music, especially Broadway tunes, and is a wonderful piano player as well as a talented singer. During college, she even had the opportunity to perform with her choir in many foreign countries. She loves to relax with a good book and spend time with her family, especially when the Tar Heels play!
Dr. Clifton has a green thumb as well as an artistic eye. This is evident in the beautiful roses she grows and the many intricate quilts she has made over the years. We use some of her quilts in the office, to keep patients warm during fillings.
Dr. Clifton enjoys her work because, “There’s always something new to learn, and it’s always exciting.” She feels like, “We make a difference in the way people smile and feel about themselves.”
She is also proud of the team that supports her and Dr. Chuck. She says she “loves working with our talented, committed team. There’s nothing better than spending your days with people who love caring for children.”
