What Are Spark Aligners?
The Spark Clear Aligner System by Ormco™ is a great alternative to traditional braces. Spark was developed with nearly 60 years of orthodontic knowledge to treat orthodontic issues including crowding, spacing, and several different bite issues. Spark aligners use TruGEN™ technology, which is designed for more efficient and effective tooth movement. Spark aligner users consider the aligners to be clearer, more comfortable, and less likely to stain than other clear aligners.
How Do Spark Aligners Work?
Clear aligners like Spark braces straighten your smile by “hugging” the teeth when they’re worn and using pressure to push them into the position that an orthodontist plans as part of treatment.
Much like other clear aligners, Ormco’s Spark teeth aligners consist of a series of trays that each have small amounts of movement “programmed” into them. Some teeth require small tooth-colored attachments that allow the aligner to snap into place, ensuring that specific movements occur.
During your initial consultation, our team will take a digital scan of your teeth and determine if you are a candidate for Spark clear aligner treatment. This scan will also allow us to create a digital treatment plan that is tailored for your specific orthodontic needs. Once the treatment plan is approved, the Spark aligners are manufactured and you can begin treatment as soon as they are delivered.
How long do Spark braces take to work? Treatment time is approximately the same as traditional metal braces. You will switch to a new tray approximately every 1-2 weeks to continue your treatment. The trays are removable (but it’s important to wear the aligners for at least 20-22 hours per day).
Cost of Spark Aligners
Orthodontic treatment with Spark teeth aligners can vary depending on your specific case. At your orthodontic consultation, we can check with your dental insurance provider to determine how much of your treatment cost may be covered by your plan. We factor that into the total treatment cost and develop a financial payment plan with you based on your specific treatment.
How to Clean and Care for Spark Aligners
Like any other clear aligner, we recommend regularly washing your Spark aligners:
- Use toothpaste and water (with a good, thorough rinse)
- Brush them with a soft bristle toothbrush
- Do not use soap to clean them
- Avoid washing your aligners with hot water (the material can be susceptible to high temperatures)
- Don’t soak your aligners in mouthwash
- Always clean your teeth before placing your aligners on them

Benefits of Spark Aligners for Adults and Teens
According to the American Association of Orthodontists, one in four orthodontic patients is an adult. Moving healthy teeth is safe at any age!
Spark is a crystal clear, comfortable and highly stain resistant aligner. It is removable and virtually invisible, which means no stressing about who may notice your orthodontic treatment. Not to mention, there’s no dietary restrictions with clear aligners, and you can brush and floss your teeth normally.
Spark Aligners FAQ
For optimal results, it is recommended to wear your Spark teeth aligners for 22 hours a day. This allows enough time to eat, drink, and maintain oral hygiene without hindering the aligning process. Keeping consistent with this duration ensures your treatment progresses smoothly and you achieve your desired smile more efficiently.
The timeline for seeing noticeable results from Spark braces can vary depending on the complexity of your case, but many users start to see changes within the first few weeks of treatment. Typically, the full treatment process can range from 6-24 months. Rest assured, with regular check-ins, you’ll be on your way to a more confident smile in no time!
- Do not eat or drink (except for water) while wearing your Spark teeth aligners. This can lead to staining and damage.
- Avoid smoking or dipping tobacco with Spark braces in, as it can discolor them.
- Don’t use hot water to clean your aligners. Extreme temperatures can warp their shape.
- Never leave your Spark teeth aligners exposed when not in use; always store them in their case to avoid loss and damage.
- Do not attempt to adjust your aligners yourself. If you feel discomfort or they seem to not fit properly, contact your orthodontist.
